Radium-226 Analysis for MMER

Quantification of Radioactivity

In Canada, the primary source of radioactivity is naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM). High concentrations may arise as a result of human activities (TENORM). The processing of raw materials (mines) or the application of fertilizer are examples of some common practices that have the potential to concentrate radioactive elements and their decay products in water. As public concern for the environment grows, new or lower limits are being legislated by governments around the world. Since 1982, Becquerel Laboratories has provided measurements to quantify the level of radioactivity in a wide variety
of materials from waters to lung fluids to bone marrow to sediments.

Radiological Testing Highlights

  • Drinking water evaluation
  • 238U series includes 234Th, 230Th, 226Ra, 222Rn, 210Po, 210Pb
  • 235U series includes 227Th, 223Ra
  • 232Th series includes 228Th, 228Ac, 228Ra, 212Pb
  • 50+ individual radionuclides by direct Gamma-spectrometry
  • Specific determinations by pre-concentration and separation techniques followed by alpha or gamma spectrometry, gas flow proportional counting, or liquid scintillation counting
  • Low detection limits (Bq/L or Bq/g) for all isotopes

Becquerel Laboratories has specialized in the analysis of environmental radionuclides for the past 20 years.

Applications

Your area of interest:

  • Waters - including drinking waters and effluents
  • Solids - soils, rocks, filters

Uncertain about your project requirements?

Let Becquerel Laboratories help plan your analytical program.

Our radioanalytical specialists can help establish an analytical protocol to satisfy your data requirements. Because we know the practicality of measurement of the desired radionuclides, we can ensure that the analytical techniques are appropriate for the required level of measurement uncertainty and that environmental background levels are considered.

We’ll show why it’s also important to consider the constraints of lab operations - such as turnaround time and lab resources available – that may impact on the choice of analysis.
